Rethymno is on of the four regional units of Crete. It is located between the prefectures of Chania and Heraklio and its capital is the city of Rethymno. Rethymno is surrounded by mountains; Psiloritis, the highest and most famous of Crete, the mountain chain of Kerdos, Kouloukounas or Talea mountains and Kryoneritis. In this region is where the famous wine and tsikoudia (cretan grape spirit) are produced. Rethymno is also well known for its fine olive oil production.
